A Relaxed Twilight Wedding at Cranham Church & Bowden Hall Hotel, Gloucestershire

There’s something incredibly special about twilight weddings, and this Gloucestershire wedding was a perfect example of why I love them so much. With a later ceremony, a relaxed timeline, and a couple who fully trusted the process, the whole day felt calm, meaningful, and full of joy.

This beautiful wedding took place at Cranham Church, followed by a relaxed and fun evening reception at Bowden Hall Hotel – a venue I know very well and absolutely love photographing.

Sophie was brilliant from before our wedding day to the end of the day. She was so helpful and reassuring in our initial call, made us feel completely at ease at our rehearsal, and made the day itself so special with her enthusiasm, guidance and expertise. We didn't have to think about a single thing when it came to the photography because Sophie had it all in hand, being clear to us, as well as our guests (which they all appreciated). We are totally in love with our photos. Sophie has captured the very essence of our day, which has brought back the wonderful memories that we had and will provide us with memories of our wedding day for the rest of our lives. She has taken photos of lovely moments between guests, as well as between my husband and I. We can highly recommend Sophie. A Change of Plans – and a Perfect One

Originally, the couple had planned to marry at St Leonards Church, in Upton St Leonards, but due to unexpected delays with roof repairs, they needed to change churches. Cranham Church stepped in beautifully, and honestly, it couldn’t have been a more perfect setting.

Adding an extra layer of meaning to the day, the ceremony was led by Helen, the vicar of St Leonards Church, who also happens to be the bride’s step‑mum. That personal connection made the ceremony incredibly warm, heartfelt, and genuinely emotional. I also personally known Helen extremely well myself so was over the moon to be working with her for this very special wedding.

With the ceremony taking place around 3pm, the day had a wonderfully unrushed feel. Twilight weddings give you the best of both worlds, gorgeous soft light for portraits and a seamless flow straight into the evening celebrations.

The couple were so relaxed, happy to go with the flow, and completely focused on enjoying their day together. It really showed in their photographs.

We chose to take portraits both at Cranham Church and later at Bowden Hall Hotel, making the most of the surroundings and the calm pace of the day.

Doing Things Their Own Way at Bowden Hall Hotel

Instead of a traditional wedding breakfast followed by evening food, the couple chose to go straight into evening food at Bowden Hall and it worked perfectly.

The atmosphere felt more like an intimate celebration than a formal schedule. Guests mingled, laughed, and enjoyed the evening without any pressure or strict timings. These kinds of weddings always feel incredibly authentic, and they photograph beautifully.
