Amberley Stroud Wedding

Helen and Julian

Amberley in the Stroud Valley is the perfect spot for a lovely winter wedding.

November saw the turn of Helen and Julian marry at the lovely Amberley Church. It was one of the coldest and windiest days of the year. We even had a tiny bit of snow in the morning! But that didn’t stop anyone from having a brilliant day.

The day started off with everyone meeting at the Amberley Inn literally a 2 minute walk down the road from the church. Everyone was in high spirits and the day was set to be amazing, albeit very cold.

This church wedding was a big celebration. Every song they sang everyone joined in singing loudly, playing musical instruments and there was even a spot of dancing. It was a huge celebration with all their friends and family.

One of the best features of this church is the huge grand steps leading up to the church. They were the perfect spot for photos both before the ceremony of the guests arriving and then group shots after. We decided to do the group shots straight after the ceremony using these steps. It was pretty windy and cold by this point so we went as quickly as possible. Luckily, Helen and Julian only wanted a few group shots – anymore and Helen would have turned blue from the wind.

We then all headed over to the wonderful Amberley Inn where the fires were lit, and the drinks poured. If you are looking for a gorgeous Cotswold small venue then check these guys out! The staff were all wonderful and the views across the valleys from the restaurant were stunning.

Helen and Julian decided to make the best of a truly beautiful sunset and ventured outside. We decided to try and tie in some confetti shots. It turns out there is such a thing as too windy for confetti! It was gone within seconds and halfway up the common before we even knew it! But that didn’t stop them from taking some photos in the sunset.

Tips from this wedding for yours:

  • If it is really windy then consider doing confetti shots inside on the dance floor. Maybe during your first dance.
  • Sunset/golden hour photos are a must. If you can have them on your wedding day, do! Plan this with your co-ordinator/photographer.
  • Really think about what group shots you want on your day. It is absolutely fine to want a long list but try to keep the bigger shots to less than 10. Give your full list to your photographer and they can take some of the smaller groups shots  throughout the day rather than all in one go. That way you and your guests can get to the partying sooner.
  • You can never plan for the weather and you should never worry about it either. But what you can do is plan for either option. Have a plan A and B of where you are going to do your larger groups shots on your day both inside and outside. Let your photographer know and they can handle it from there.
