We started off this gorgeous Gloucester Cathedral Wedding day with Lauren getting ready at home with her sister and mum. A lovely, relaxed vibe throughout the whole morning with lots of excitement for the wedding at the Cathedral. A few days prior we had all met at the Gloucester Cathedral for a walk through and rehearsal of the ceremony. So the anticipation for the real thing was growing throughout the morning.
Before we knew it time had flown by and we were off to Gloucester Cathedral. It was a perfect spring morning with the sun shining with the guests arriving for the main event. Joe was nervously waiting inside the cathedral whilst Lauren and her bridesmaids were waiting patiently outside for the start of the long walk down the aisle.
I was absolutely amazed but not at all surprised by the attention to detail that the Cathedral had put into this wedding. Everything was perfectly timed and practised a few days before. I actually met Lauren and Joe for their rehearsal at the Cathedral and to talk to everyone about where I could and couldn’t be on the day. They were fantastic and let me move around as much as I liked – I only moved during hymns so as to not distract anyone! Lauren’s walk down the aisle was timed to perfection with the Wedding March starting all the way back at the main doors, down the aisle of the Nave ending on the top step in The Quire.
During this wedding I was lucky enough to have the absolutely amazing Zara Davis Photography second shooting for me. I would highly recommend getting a second photographer for Cathedral or larger weddings such as this one. With grand, huge venues such as Cathedrals there are lots of different locations we can shoot from to get you a brilliant range of photos, but we can only be in one place at one time. In this case the lovely Zara went up in the Organ loft and shot down, capturing the magnificent cathedral window above the altar, whilst I was positioned near the front. This meant that key moments such as walking down the aisle, exchanging rings and the first kiss were all captured but with different angles.
After the ceremony, Lauren and Joe asked their guests for a large group photo out on the steps of the Cathedral. After which they all travelled onto the reception, which was being held at Glenfall House in Cheltenham.
Lauren and Joe wanted to really utilise the amazing Cathedral setting and opted to go back inside for their couples portraits around various spots in the Cathedral. Their closest family stayed with us for some more intimate family shots. Whilst myself, Lauren and Joe wandered round the locations of the cathedral the brilliant Zara took some wonderful photos of their family members so no one was waiting around for Lauren and Joe to finish.
We went literally all round the Cathedral in the various smaller side chapels, including the recently restored Lady Chapel and the famous Cloisters. If you have never visited this Cathedral I would highly recommend it. Their are smaller chapels round the outside all beautifully decorated with a story to each. The Chapel of St Thomas has stunning blue stained glass windows and the beautifully painted St Andrews Chapel is another not to be missed!
